Fixation of Connectors to Gas Hoses
You may not have given much thought to this topic, but there are some very good reasons why you should know about it. More about these reasons at the end.
Fixation of non interchangeable connectors to gas hoses is specified in AS2902. The relevant ISO standard is ISO 5359. (You do not have to know these numbers, but you do need to know what they say).
Both standards require that connectors be fixed to hoses by non reusable, crimped ferrules.
Why did the authors of these standards bother to put these requirements in?
There were a number of case reports of non technical people accidentally detaching hoses from their connectors, particularly when moving equipment such as anaesthetic machines. They would then reattach the hoses incorrectly.
Why do you need to know?
These photos, and many others in my collection, are not fake. They are of actual equipment provided by big name suppliers.
You should check all equipment on delivery to make sure it complies. You will be suprised by how many faults you find.
The ISO standard specifically notes that hose clamps are unacceptable.
The Australian standard has a further requirement that the ferrules be marked with the name of the manufacturer and a serial number.
